Four ‘Dogs named CSC Academic All-District

FRESNO, Calif. - Four Fresno State track and field student-athletes earned Academic All-District honors, announced by College Sports Communicators on Tuesday. Jewel Ash, Harriette Mortlock, Liz Tarczy and Ella Spaulding picked up the academic accolade for the 2024-25 year.

Mortlock earned the honor for the second-straight season, carrying a 3.53 cumulative GPA while majoring in Kinesiology with an emphasis in exercise science. Mortlock qualified for the NCAA West First Round in javelin this season. She earned All-Mountain West honors, placing second with a season-best toss of 53.65m/176-0 at the MW Championships.

Ash, Tarczy and Spaulding all took gold at the Mountain West Championships this season.

Ash, a graduate transfer into Fresno State, studied for her master's in education. She captured gold in the 400m hurdles at the MW Championships, with a then-program record time of 57.63. She bettered her program record at the NCAA West First Round with a 57.46 time in the first round.

Tarczy took gold in the high jump with a personal-best jump of 1.83m/6-0, the second-highest jump in program history. She qualified for NCAA West First Round, and finished 15th. The sophomore Bulldog is a sports marketing major and carries a 3.85 cumulative GPA.

Spaulding was an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Outdoor Championship, winning gold in the heptathlon at the MW Championship with 5,551 points. She became the first Bulldog since 2019 to capture gold in the heptathlon at the championships. Studying biology, Spaulding has a 3.50 cumulative GPA.

Spaulding advances to the ballot for Academic All-America consideration.

To be eligible, student-athletes must have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA and have ranked in the Top 50 in an event in their region on the TFRRS descending order list.
