'Dogs complete busy weekend in SoCal

The Fresno State track & field teams had a busy weekend in Southern California, competing at three exciting events against some of the top talents in the country.

LA VERNE, Calif - The Fresno State distance runners saw personal bests and collegiate debuts this weekend at the Leopard Invitational. Kylie Ward and Gianna Chiaramonte took 10th and 11th, respectively, in the steeplechase. Ward saw a personal best 11:12.98 while Chiramonte improved her all-time mark to 11:17.03.

Sophomore Janae Penner saw her collegiate debut in the 10,000 meters with a time of 38:54.26, placing 14th.

WALNUT, Calif. - Fresno State continued action at the Mt. Sac Relays. Liz Tarczy and Cierra Jackson continued their outdoor success this season as Tarczy earned the win in high jump and Jackson took second in shot put.

Tarczy remained undefeated in the high jump this season, tying her personal best with a jump of 1.80m. In the shot put, Jackson had a toss of 16.88m.

Harriette Mortlock took sixth in the javelin, throwing for a 49.41m mark.

In the long jump, Janae Heffernan recorded a 5.99m jump for fourth place. Heffernan improved her personal best this weekend.

AZUSA, Calif. - Fresno State picked up another win at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Tearra Haney won the javelin with a mark of 46.17m, improving her personal best. Haney claimed her first win of the season. The Bakersfield native also placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 44.85m.

In the women's hammer throw, the Bulldogs took second and third place with Emma Harper and Maria Lawson. Harper threw for a second-place 57.56m mark while Lawson saw a throw of 55.79m for third place.

Jamarcus Phillips had a throw of 51.73m in the discus, placing third. Fresno State saw athletes take sixth and seventh in the men's hammer throw as Isaiah Calvin (53.32m) took sixth and Jose Zarco-Sanchez (50.92m) took seventh. Calvin also took eighth in the javelin with a throw of 51.83m.

Fresno State closes out the outdoor season at home, first hosting the Fresno State Invitational on May 2-3 then hosting the Mountain West Outdoor Championships on May 15-17.
