BOULDER, Colo. – The Fresno State volleyball team is headed to Boulder, Colorado for the Buffs Classic hosted by the Colorado Buffaloes this weekend.
The Bulldogs will be tested in matchups with Washington, Georgia and host Colorado.
WEEK ONE DOWN
The Bulldogs began the season at the GCU Invitational in Phoenix, Ariz.
Fresno State went 2-1 on the weekend with a sweep over Montana and a five-set win over GCU.
Addison Haluska, Ella Rud and Brooke Cowie each earned double-doubles in the tournament.
ALL TOURNAMENT TEAM
Following their performance in the GCU Invitational, Ella Rud, Dionii Fraga and Brooke Cowie were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Cowie claimed the title of Tournament MVP with 138 assists, 29 digs, 8.0 total blocks and four service aces.
Ella Rud had 55 kills on the weekend, 23 of which were against host GCU, just one shy of a career-high.
In addition, she had three service aces, 29 digs and 6.0 total blocks.
Dionii Fraga opened the tournament with a 26-dig match, tying her career-high that she had set exactly one year earlier. She totaled 54 digs in the tournament.
THE MOTTO
En route to their first MW title, Fresno State adopted the phrase "Why not us?" during the 2023 season.
The phrase was inspired by the Mountain West's Preseason Coaches Poll, which had the Bulldogs predicted to finish last in the conference… and wasn't close.
"Why not us?" was used to remind teammates and supporters alike that someone had to win… it might as well be the 'Dogs.
Fresno State has adopted a new mindset for 2024: "Earned Not Given".
The phrase was introduced by the reigning champions as a reminder that nothing has been or will be handed to them after proving that they are a championship-caliber team.
